The Doom 3: BFG Edition includes Doom 3, the Resurrection of Evil expansion, a new set of levels called "The Lost Mission", and also the original Doom 1 and Doom 2. So, basically, you're getting the entire Doom franchise in one (we assume it will be retail) package. Also, while the Xbox 360 is no stranger to Doom, this will mark the first time the franchise will appear on PS3.
Doom 3, Resurrection of Evil, and The Lost Mission have all been optimized for 3D tv's along with updated and enhanced visuals for D3 and RoE. The game will feature Achievements on Xbox 360 and Trophies on PS3. In even better news, the game has a new checkpoint system to make progress through the game a little easier, and, amazingly, Doom 3 will now feature an armor mounted flashlight, so no more swapping between weapons so you can actually see stuff. The change in the flashlight will give this version of Doom 3 a new and interesting feel compared to the original, which will make it worth playing all over again.
“DOOM 3 was enthusiastically embraced by gamers worldwide at its release,” said John Carmack, Technical Director at id Software. “Today, the full experience has been enhanced and extended to be better than ever, and is delivered across all the platforms with a silky smooth frame rate and highly responsive controls. New support for 3D TVs, monitors, and head mounted displays also allows players to experience the game with more depth than ever before. We think shooter fans everywhere will love it.”
Doom 3: BFG Edition is scheduled for release October 16th, 2012 with a MSRP of $39.99.
