Guide Review - Prince of Persia Classic Review (XBLA)
The gameplay is fairly simple, but it will keep you on your toes the entire time. The palace is filled with traps and spikes in the floor and spinning blades and deep pits, and you have to run and jump and grab ledges and more to avoid the traps. There are also enemy guards scattered around the levels, and swordfighting with them is one of the coolest parts of the game. It all boils down to simply blocking until you have an opening and then attacking, but as you progress through the game the enemies become much faster and their patterns more complicated, so keeping up with them is challenging and satisfying.
Just like the original Prince of Persia, you will die a lot in PoP Classic. You only have a limited amount of health, and falling down pits, walking on spikes, and all of the other traps will end your life very quickly. PoP Classic makes things a bit easier, though, by placing checkpoints in the levels and there is also a little onscreen butterfly-thing that tells you where to go so you don't get lost. Also, the 60 minute time limit isn't strictly enforced, and you can still beat the game after time is up. These tweaks and changes definitely make the game more fun and are very much appreciated.
Another area of great improvement is the graphics. Everything has been given a fresh coat of paint so it matches up with the recent 3D Prince of Persia games, and it all looks great. The animation of the Prince is particularly good.
Overall, PoP Classic is a challenging, fun, well put together game that is worth checking out.
