One of the very first things I tell new Xbox 360 owners is that location of their new system is everything. Heat and dust are lethal to high-powered systems like the Xbox 360 and PS3, which means that you can’t just shove them into an entertainment center or on a shelf with no ventilation. One company has decided to take this battle between heat and proper storage head on, and Atlantic Inc.’s line of GameKeeper wire game racks are the perfect way to keep your systems cool and organized.

  • Title: GameKeeper Wire Gaming Racks
  • Platform:Multi
  • From: Atlantic Inc.
  • Pros: Easy to put together; very sturdy and solid; lots of ventilation for your systems; infinitely expandable
  • Cons: Price seems a bit high, but is comparable to other living room furniture; PS3 won’t fit in the vertical space

What Is It?

The two products I am covering today are the GameKeeper Three-Tier Wire Gaming Center and the GameKeeper Four-Tier Wire Gaming Tower. Both of them are built the same way, using the same materials, and keep your systems cool just the same. The differences are that the Tower gives you a choice between wheels or leveling feet, it is larger and can hold more stuff, comes with more hooks to store controllers and games, and it has a pull out game storage rack on the bottom. The other difference between the two units is the price. The Three-Tier Wire Gaming Center will set you back $39.99 while the Four-Tier Wire Gaming Tower costs $59.99. Other than these things, both of them give you plenty of game storage space, hooks to store controllers, space to safely place an Xbox 360 upright, and they also look pretty nice.

Assembly

Putting the Three-Tier Wire Gaming Center or the Four-Tier Wire Gaming Tower together is the same basic process for both, and it is pretty easy. First you screw the feet to the corner posts. Then you use special clips that fit into grooves on the corner posts to set the height of each shelf. Then you slide the shelf over the corner posts and lock it into position on the clips. Then you just repeat from there. Each unit also comes with special pieces that hook into the sides of the shelves so you can store your controllers up off of the ground as well as little bookend pieces that connect to the wire shelf tops so you can store your games without them falling over. The instructions on how to build these units are very clear and easy to follow. They give you suggested shelf heights, but you can adjust them to your liking.

One other thing that is definitely worth noting is that these products are completely expandable. You can connect several units together (connecting them by overlapping shelves on the same set of corner posts) and make a larger unit in whatever size or shape you need. Also, since the Gaming Center and Gaming Tower both use the same components, you can mix and match to get different sizes and shapes. Unlike an entertainment center or TV stand that will only hold X amount of stuff, the GameKeeper Wire Gaming Center and Tower can grow along with your collection, which is very nice.

Performance

When you get everything assembled the way you like it, you really can’t argue with the performance. They look surprisingly good and the design is nice and simple so so they aren’t going to clash with the rest of your living room the way most gaming furniture does. For a dorm room, kids bedroom, game room, family room, etc., these racks are absolutely perfect. And you really can’t argue with the fact that they can and do keep your systems cool. You’ll have 100% clean flowing air all the way around your system, which is a much better solution than strapping on a gimmicky fan to the back of your 360 that may or may not actually be helping. Another thing I really like is that thanks to the specially designed section for storing your Xbox 360 or PS2 vertically, I finally feel comfortable with setting up my system that way. If you have kids or pets or goofy friends, setting up your system vertically is usually just asking for trouble, but with the GameKeeper wire racks, your system is safely held vertical and can’t fall over.

A couple things of note. First off, the PlayStation 3 won’t fit into the vertical slot. It is too fat. Also, I wouldn’t recommend storing your PS3 on one of the shelves next to your vertical Xbox 360. It would just blow hot air out of the right side of the system at the heart of your Xbox 360, which can and will cause your Xbox to overheat and fail. Keep these things in mind when you are setting up your systems.

Bottom Line

GameKeeper 3-Tier Wire Gaming Center
Atlantic Inc
All in all, Atlantic Inc.’s line of GameKeeper wire gaming racks deliver everything they promise and I would recommend them. They are built out of very solid materials, they are easy to put together, they are completely customizable and expandable, and they will absolutely keep your systems cooler and running longer than just about any other type of storage furniture. My one concern about them is that at $40 for the Three-Tier Wire Gaming Center and $60 for the Four-Tier Wire Gaming Tower, they seem a bit expensive, but when you consider how much most living room furniture costs the price is a bit easier to take. And when you also consider that these are designed specifically for game systems and just how sturdy and solidly they are built, I think you definitely get your money’s worth. If you had to pick just one, I'd recommend the Four-Tier Wire Gaming Tower because of the extra storage, pull out shelf on the bottom, and optional wheels.

You can buy the Three-Tier Wire Gaming Center or the Four-Tier Wire Gaming Tower along with extra controller or game storage hooks from the GameKeeper website. Atlantic also offers specially made backpacks and cases designed for taking your systems on the go and you can see them at that link as well.
