The Bottom Line
- In depth fishing sim
- Lots of lures
- Xbox Live support
- Ugly graphics
- Slow as molassass boats
- A little too deep maybe
Description
- Very detailed fishing sim. No other game has the same level of depth.
- Maybe a little too detailed. Why play a game when you can actually go fishing?
- Lots of lures and different ways of presenting them. True to life.
- The graphics are absolutely horrid. PSone quality here.
- The boats are slow and you spend a lot of time driving around the lake. Boring.
- You can compete against other players via Xbox Live.
Guide Review - Pro Fishing Challenge
Casting, retrieving, hooking a fish, landing a fish, and everything in between requires seperate controls that are all different depending on what you are doing. The game forces you to go through the tutorial the first time you play, which is a good thing because it is pretty complicated. You have to know where to position your rod and how to keep the optimum line tension if you want to catch a fish. All of this detail makes the game feel rather realistic and very satisfying when you do everything right. Selecting the correct rod, reel, and lure is also very important. There are lots of items to choose from and several ways to present your lures (I was surprised to see a Carolina Rig in the game) so if you aren't framiliar with all of it you can get lost.
The only real annoyance in the game is how slowly your boat moves. The lakes are huge and it takes several minutes to go from one side to the other. It may be realistic, but it is still boring.
Pro Fishing Challenge won't appeal to everyone. Give it a rent.
