The Bottom Line

If you're in need of a decent RPG on the Xbox, Morrowind is just the thing to cure your role-playing itch. The world is massive and there are a ton of things to do. There is a lot of information to absorb before you can really enjoy it, however, so if you aren't very patient or don't like the more tedious aspects of RPGs, Morrowind probably isn't for you. If you can invest the time to really learn how to cast spells, upgrade weapons, and fight effectively, definitely check Morrowind out.
Pros
  • Huge world to explore
  • You can interact with pretty much everything
  • Tons of side quests to keep you busy
Cons
  • It might be a little too big ...
  • The graphics are kind of ugly
  • Loads of glitches

Description

  • The world is massive
  • You can interact with everything right down to plates and silverware.
  • The game is a little too massive and detailed. Some people will likely be overwhelmed.
  • Graphically, Morrowind fails to impress. The water looks good, but everything else is average.
  • There are glitches all over the place. Random crashes and lost save files are the least of them.
  • Get the Morrowind: GOTY edition. It includes two expansion packs and about half as many glitches.

Guide Review - Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind Review (Xbox)

Morrowind is probably the biggest game ever. The map you can explore is huge, you can amass a huge collection of stuff, and the storyline is novel length by the time you get done. This game is simiply huge. All of this detail can be pretty intimidating for casual RPG players, though, so bigger isn't always better.

In Morrowind there are a ton of things to do. You an follow the main story missions or you can take on new tasks given to you by AI characters. You can also join various guilds and organizations that will give you even more missions. On top of all this, you can upgrade and repair your own weapons and you can also learn how to enchant your weapons with different spells to make them even more powerful.

Morrowind suffers from quite a few problems, though. The graphics are pretty bland and the character models are downright ugly. Glitches also spoil an otherwise great experience. The load times are almost unbearable and the game won't even work for a lot of people. Also, the game tends to crash or freeze at random times and if you don't save often you are pretty much screwed.

Even with these glitches, Morrowind is a fun game. There is so much to do and so much to see that Morrowind can take hundreds of hours to fully complete. That is good value if you ask me. There are two different versions of Morrowind available for Xbox. The original version is just the Morrowind game, but the GOTY edition is the original game plus two expansion packs. Go GOTY.
