Tiger Woods PGA Tour 06 Review

Golf is a fun game, but most of us can’t drive the ball 300+ yards and our experience with championship courses is limited to what we see on TV. That is why a game like Tiger Woods 06 is so great. We get to live the life of Tiger, take on a number of fantastic courses, and strut around like we actually know what we’re doing. Tiger Woods 06 features a ton of real world courses, real world golfers, and enough modes to keep you busy for a good long time.

Features and Modes

As far as features go, Tiger Woods 06 is packed. There are a dozen real world courses such as Pebble Beach, St. Andrews, Doral, TPC at Sawgrass and twenty real golfers including Tiger Woods, John Daly, Ben Hogan, Arnold Palmer, and even LPGA sensation Natalie Gulbis. Tiger Woods 06 also has more than its fair share of modes. You can play a fairly painless standard round or you can compete in stroke, skins, stableford, best ball, four-ball, and alternate-shot play. You can also, of course, compete on the PGA Tour and compete in all of the real life events. The main single player mode is called Rivals Mode and in this mode you compete against fantasy golfers in a number of different eras and you have to beat a real world pro in order to move onto a new era. The objective is to prove you are the best in the world by finding and beating Tiger Woods. This mode is absolutely enormous and there are a lot of different challenges you have to complete to progress so it is always varied and always a lot of fun.

Online play is also included and while it isn’t silky smooth, this is a golf game so it doesn’t really matter if there is some lag. You can play most of the same play styles as the single player game and there is also a battle golf mode where you win your opponent’s clubs if you win. There are also a number of options you can adjust to make the online game more or less difficult, which is nice, and finding an opponent is fairly quick and easy.

As in past Tiger Woods games, created players are the centerpiece of many of the modes and building a character and then hitting the links is a surprisingly satisfying experience. You can adjust your character’s appearance, skills, and equipment and the interface is fast and very easy to use. The create-a-player mode is deep and feature filled and is hands down the best character creation mode out of any game so far (yes, including all of the wrestling games).
