Extra Modes
In addition to the main single-player mode, Revenge of the Sith offers a few other goodies. There are a handful of bonus missions where you get to play as General Grievous, Yoda, and Darth Vader, but these mission are very short and dont really provide any new or different thrills. A co-op mode is available, but there arent very many missions and it doesnt offer anything you arent already sick of if you have played through the single-player game. There is also a duel mode where you can pick from a number of different Jedi and get your fight on. It captures the best part of the single-player game, which is the one-on-one duels, but it is a pretty shallow experience thanks to the button masher gameplay.Graphics
Graphically, Revenge of the Sith is a good looking game. The environments are detailed and look good overall. There are also a lot of times where there will be a big window or overlook in the background and it is impressive to see a big space battle or something going on behind all of the lightsaber hacking and slashing that youll be doing. The characters also look pretty good and the animation is good overall. A nice touch is that there are a lot of movie scenes used in the game and you will go seamlessly from watching a video from the movie to seeing that same scene reproduced with the game engine. Most impressive.
Sound
The sound is also pretty good. The music and sound effects are lifted right from the movie and they all sound great. One issue is that none of the actors from the movie do any voice work for the game, but they sound close enough. Their performances arent the greatest, but they sound close enough that it didn't bother me too much.Bottom Line
Star Wars: Episode III: Revenge of the Sith isnt a bad game, but it also isnt all that great. The hack and slash, button masher style of gameplay is about as deep as a puddle and once you see everything once there is no reason to pick it up again. For pretty much everyone, this is going to be a rental but you really arent missing anything if you skip it entirely and just wait for the movie. Star Wars fans will definitely dig it, but I cant really recommend it for a purchase. Once the hype dies down, this is a short, shallow game that will be forgotten come May 19th, 2005 when Episode III hits theaters.
