Silent Scope Complete Review
Silent Scope Complete is a compilation of four Silent Scope titles that have appeared in the arcades dating back to 1999. Getting four games for the price of one sounds like a pretty good deal, but little changed from one game to the next so all you are really getting is four versions of the same game. Throw in poor light gun support and Silent Scope Complete is a disappointment across the board.

Features

Silent Scope Complete includes Silent Scope 1, 2, 3, and EX. The storylines of the games don’t really connect with each other, but the main theme of you versus an evil army of terrorists is prevalent in all of them so that is all you really need to know. You can play through the original arcade mode in each of these games and there are also training and shooting range modes available. Each game also has a number of options for difficulty and credits so you can adjust the challenge to your skill level.

Gameplay

The gameplay in Silent Scope puts you in the role of a sniper in a fixed position and you have to take out terrorists. In the arcade you got to play with a special light gun that had a scope with an LCD screen inside that simulated looking through the scope of a real gun. The home versions can’t offer that, obviously, so instead you move a cursor around on screen and then press a button to zoom in on your target to try and get a headshot.

And that really is all there is to it. It is a simple concept that was made considerably more fun in the arcade by the exceptionally cool gun you got to use. At home, the experience isn’t nearly as engrossing and the limitations of the games and the lack of change between them are highlighted when you sit down to play them for an extended period as opposed to 15-20 minutes at the arcade. Another big complaint about the games is that they are at their best when you get to actually behave like a real sniper and take enemies out from long range, but instead you are thrown into situations that play out like other “on-rails” games where you moved around and have to quickly take out enemies. These sections basically ruin the feel of the game.
