Project: Snowblind grabs you from the very first scene with fast paced gameplay and thrilling firefights and doesn’t let up until the credits roll. This game is fast, fun, and amazingly polished so there is a whole lot to like for first-person-shooter fans. Project: Snowblind is a solid title that delivers the goods in both single and multiplayer and is a game that Xbox action fans should definitely check out.

Story

In Project: Snowblind you are Nathan Frost, a bio-engineered super soldier. In addition to being a firearms and explosives expert, you also have been given unique bio-augmentations such as enhanced vision and the ability to slow time. The story of the game follows your fight against unwelcome invaders, shady military coalitions, and an ultimate weapon that could go off at any minute. Your life definitely isn’t easy.

The game takes place in a near-future version of Hong Kong where fancy futuristic military weapons and vehicles stand side by side with dilapidated 20th century architecture. Much of the game takes place out in the streets but you also spend a lot of time indoors in urban and industrial centers. The settings are familiar yet still different which makes you comfortable but also keeps you interested. There is nothing more satisfying than defending your home turf and Project: Snowblind does a good job of giving you things you can relate to while still maintaining a futuristic atmosphere.

Gameplay

The real hook in Project: Snowblind is the fantastic gameplay. The fascinating setting and storyline draw you in but the gameplay will keep you coming back. There are a ton of weapons to use which include futuristic versions of FPS staples such as pistols, assault rifles, and shotguns but there are also some inventive new weapons such as an electromagnetic pulse rifle that electrocutes groups of enemies. There are also various types of grenades and explosive weapons to give you a little more bang for your buck. Like I mentioned above, your character has a number of special abilities that you have to take advantage of in order to progress through the game. You have enhanced vision which is a sort of night vision and infrared hybrid as well as the ability to slow down time, cover yourself in a shield, turn invisible, and use an electrical attack. You can’t rely on these powers too much, though, because they quickly run out of energy that has to be replenished with special pickups. An interesting aspect of the gameplay is that you can hack door panels and computers with a special item and take control of them. Taking over sentry robots and turning them on their owners never gets old.
Project: Snowblind ties all of the weapons, explosives, and special abilities together with a solid control scheme and the result is a fast paced game that is easy to get into and enjoy. You switch weapons and abilities with the control pad and while it isn’t the optimal setup, it works well. You can quickly go from tossing grenades to shooting and switching weapons and then activating special abilities and the whole experience is very smooth. Most of the levels are intended to be faster paced as they are more linear in design and you simply clear out room after room in intense firefights, but there are some stealth missions as well. Stealth is merely a suggestion, though, which is nice because you don’t have to be perfect to advance and can actually be quite gung-ho if you want to and still be just fine. Dotting the environments are turrets you can use and a number of drivable vehicles which change the pace of the game and keeps you playing.

The best part about Project: Snowblind is that you are always moving forward and shooting at something. The game is nonstop action and it is really satisfying and fun.
