Harmonix is bringing out the heavy firepower for Rock Band 3. While it will still fully support all of your older Guitar Hero and Rock Band instruments, the big news is that it will introduce new instruments such as a real 6-string guitar and a 25-key keyboard. The idea for Rock Band 3 is for it to form a bridge from videogame music/rhythm games to playing real instruments in the real world. We've never been more excited for or frightened of a new videogame than we are now.

Songs

Rock Band 3 will feature 83 tracks on-disc in addition to the 1500+ songs that are currently available as DLC or via export from Rock Band 1, 2, LEGO Rock Band, the AC/DC track pack, and Green Day: Rock Band.

An important new feature is that it will now be easier to sort through all of your songs. You'll be able to filter your songs in a number of ways to show only the type of songs you are specifically looking for.

Features

Rock Band 3 will allow up to 7 people to play at once - guitar, bass, keyboard, drums, and three vocalists. The game will feature the ability to jump in / drop out of a song in progress as well as adjust the difficulty in the middle of a song. The career mode also will feature 700+ individual music skill-related goals to better showcase your own personal growth as a musician rather than featuring a pre-set story for you to follow.

New Instruments

All of your old Guitar Hero and Rock Band guitars, drums, and microphones are fully compatible with Rock Band 3. New for Rock Band 3 is the addition of a 25-key keyboard and a real six-string guitar. A MIDI adapter will also be available that will allow you to use a MIDI keyboard or drum set you already own with the game.

Pro Mode

Pro Mode is the most interesting new addition to Rock Band 3. It will be available for drums, keyboard, and guitar, and is intended to teach people the skills required to play the real instruments in real life. The drums will add three cymbals to the four pads already present. As for the keyboard, well, piano/keyboard is pretty self explanatory how it will get more complicated.

The new guitars are full sized six-string guitars in one of two flavors - a Fender Mustang PRO simulated guitar that won't function as a real guitar, but will have 6 strings (not full length) to pick and 102 buttons on the neck, and a Squire Fender Stratocaster that will be a real, fully functioning guitar you could go from playing RB3 to plugging it into a real amplifier and keep playing.
