Top 10 Best Movie Games

By , About.com Guide

Games based on movies have greatly increased in quality over the last few years and now they are something gamers can actually get excited about instead of cringing when they are announced. We take a look at the best movie games (in no specific order) available for the Xbox.

1. Lego Star Wars

Lego Star Wars wrapped the prequel Star Wars trilogy in a cute Lego wrapper but the gameplay was fast and furious and fun for all ages and not just the kiddies. Tons of characters and lots of just plain cool Star Wars stuff make Lego Star Wars a great movie game.

2. King Kong

King Kong absorbs you into its world better than just about any other game available. Great graphics and sound, a solid story and characters, and a constant state of fear because literally everything on the island is trying to kill you make this game simply outstanding.

3. Jurassic Park: Operation Genesis

Operation Genesis lets you build your own park and fill it with your favorite dinosaurs. You can sit back and watch or you can knock down a few fences and let the dinos run amok amongst your visitors. The game looks great and features music and sounds taken straight from the movies. A very fun and underrated game.

4. Star Wars Battlefront II

Battlefront II gives you all of the characters, all of the vehicles, and all of the battlefields from the entire Star Wars series and lets you play things out however you want. The gameplay has been refined over the first Battlefront and the online play is very solid.

5. Chronicles of Riddick: Escape from Butcher Bay

Chronicles of Riddick is a gorgeous looking and sounding FPS that puts you in Vin Diesel’s shoes and lets you hurt a lot of people. This is one of those games that is far better than the movies it is meant to accompany.

6. The Warriors

The Warriors is Rockstar’s take on the cult classic movie and it actually manages to be better than the source material. It is a fun beat-em-up that gives you lots of weapons and attacks and lets you wreak havoc however you choose. A bit mindless, but undeniably entertaining.

7. Spider-Man 2

Spider-Man 2 loosely follows the story from the movie but also adds in some fan favorite villains for extra fun. The core of the gameplay is the freedom to swing anywhere, climb on anything, and do whatever you want using all of the powers of Spider-Man. This is perhaps the best superhero game ever.

8. From Russia With Love

From Russia With Love captures the sights and sounds of the classic Bond movie and couples it with fast and furious third-person-shooting gameplay. The game is pretty solid in all aspects and a must play title for Bond fans.

9. The Matrix: Path of Neo

Enter the Matrix was a total flop, but Atari and Shiny more than made up for it with Path of Neo. All of the great action scenes from the Matrix trilogy starring Neo with great, easy to learn beat-em-up gameplay made this one a winner.

10. Lord of the Rings: Return of the King

The biggest and (arguably) best LotR movie deserves the biggest and best videogame and EA definitely delivered. A simple hack ‘n slash action game at its core, Return of the King gave you all of the characters, three separate campaigns you could jump between at will, and the great visuals and music from the movies. Good times.
