Guide To Selling To SecondSpin.com

We're always on the lookout for new safe, fast, and easy ways to sell or trade off our older games and movies. Getting rid of older stuff makes space on your shelf (and your wallet) for new stuff, after all. With eBay's buyer protection policies essentially making the site anti-seller, Amazon's Trade-In service in a sharp decline where their values are so bad they aren't worth considering anymore (and we liked them so much back in 2010), and GameStop being, well, GameStop (your mileage may vary), we needed a new selling / trading home. Enter SecondSpin.com - a site that pays cash for your old CDs, DVD, and games.

What Is SecondSpin.com?

SecondSpin.com is an online retailer that has been around since 1996 (with a handful of brick and mortar stores opening since then) that features music, movies, and videogames. In addition to buying new and used items from them, you can also sell your collection to them as well.

How Much Do They Pay?

Admittedly, their prices won't wow you at just $25.50 for popular and new release games, but considering they don't take any extra fees or commissions, the values aren't so bad especially when you compare them to Amazon or GameStop's values. You do have to pay shipping to send it to them, but depending on how many items you send in (you have to meet a minimum threshold) you can also get a shipping reimbursement. The site also occasionally offers bonus coupons that give you an extra 20%, which turns those $25 games into $30 games, which is pretty darn competitive. Obviously not as much as you could potentially get on eBay, but you also won't have to pay extra fees or deal with buyers constantly trying to rip you off.

The best part is that they will actually pay you in cash. You can take PayPal, receive a check in the mail, or take store credit. Personally, I like the cash via check option. I don't need to explain why getting cash you can spend anywhere on anything is great, do I?

What Is The Selling Process Like?

The process is very simple. The SecondSpin.com site has separate sections for buying and selling, so you just go to the selling side and start adding items you want to sell to your cart. Once you have everything you want to sell in your cart, you just check out and are given instructions on how to package and ship your items to SecondSpin.com. I like to use USPS Priority Mail flat rate boxes, and delivery confirmation and insurance are highly recommended.

It takes 3-5 days for your items to be processed after they receive them, at which point you'll get an e-mail telling you what they accepted and how much your payment will be. PayPal funds will be added to your account in 2-3 days, while if you opted for a check in the mail instead it takes 4-5 days to show up after your items are processed.

Bottom Line

I have used SecondSpin.com several times over the last year, and have never had a bad experience. If you're looking for an alternative to eBay / Amazon / GameStop, give it a look.
