A pleasant surprise earlier in this generation was the success of SEGA and Sumo Digital's mascot racer, Sonic & SEGA All-Stars Racing. It was one of the first kart racer to really challenge Mario Kart's dominance in the genre since Crash Team Racing back in the PS1 days. While that first game was a little by-the-numbers, its sequel, Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed, makes a number of significant and interesting changes that will really impress genre vets and newcomers alike.
