Ubisoft today announced a bass guitar expansion is coming for its guitar teaching game Rocksmith on August 14th, 2012. The DLC is kind of spendy at $29.99, but it will update all of the on-disc tracks as well as all of the DLC songs available for the game to let you play the bass tracks. It will also add bass-specific training modes and mini-games to help you either learn to play bass, or sharpen your skills. Another interesting feature is that it won't require a bass guitar to use the bass tracks and instead will have a mode that lets a regular 6-string guitar emulate a bass (though, to properly learn how to play for real you'll have to get a real bass at some point) but it is nice that the option to play without buying a new guitar if you don't already have a bass is there.
We really enjoyed Rocksmith when we reviewed it last Fall and expect the new bass tracks and teaching tools to be just as good. The $29.99 asking price also seems fair considering that it basically adds a whole new game on top of something you already own. Look for the Rocksmith bass DLC on August 14th.
