Status Update - The Chronicles of Riddick: Assault on Dark Athena

By June 7, 2008

Follow me on:

Seemingly forever ago, Vivendi and developer Starbreeze announced The Chronicles of Riddick: Assault on Dark Athena, a next-gen remake of their cult hit Xbox game, The Chronicles of Riddick: Escape from Butcher Bay. But after that announcement, the game seemingly dropped off of the radar. The general consensus among gamers was that it had been quietly cancelled. I can tell you today, happily, that it is still coming along and seems to be closer to release than you'd think.

I contacted Starbreeze CEO Johan Kristiansson through e-mail, and he informed me that

"We are certianly working on it, and we are almost done actually and the game looks great. We are just waiting for the marketing campaign to get started now."

He didn't give me a time frame for release, but it seems like it will hopefully be out sooner rather than later.

The Chronicles of Riddick: Assault on Dark Athena includes the full single-player campaign from Escape from Butcher Bay along with a brand new single-player campaign as well as brand new multiplayer modes. It is coming out for PC, PS3, and Xbox 360 sometime this year.

See the original announcement here.

And with that, GoW 2 jumps straight to number 2 on my most anticipated games of the year list.

Thank you for not canning this, Starbreeze.

I wonder if they’ll want the full 60 bills for this – i guess if there is a second games worth of content i could see paying the full price – a nice MP component could also sell me.

Is there any other evidence that can CONFIRM Riddick is releasing later this year? This seems to be the ONLY evidence I can dig up… Why do major gaming sites not have any information regarding the remake of Riddick since 2008?
