Bungie To Become An Independent Studio

Friday October 5, 2007
The rumors have been swirling all week about Bungie leaving Microsoft, and today we finally have something official.

Don't worry, it isn't as bad as everyone feared. And, really, it doesn't seem like anything is going to change. Microsoft will still have a stake in the company. Bungie will still work with the Xbox 360 and Windows as their primary platforms. And Microsoft Game Studios will still publish Bungie titles.

The difference is going to be that, as an independent studio, Bungie will have the freedom to make something other than Halo, and they will be able to do it mostly on their own terms rather than always having the whips cracked by MS.

Not the Earth-shattering announcement that many people feared (or had hoped for in the case of Sony fans ...), but still interesting. It will be exciting to see what Bungie comes up with next.
