Black, HDMI Xbox 360 "Elite" System Coming Soon? "Confirmed"

Over the last few months, whispers of this rumor have been echoing through the dark corners of the internet. I have ignored it as long as I could, as I would rather not rile up the fanboys and post unconfirmed rumors, but I can't put it off any more. Those whispers have turned into giant albino gorillas screaming the rumor from the rooftops.

EDIT: Well, it is now officially official. The Xbox 360 Elite system will be released on April 29th, 2007 and will retail for $479.99. It will include a black Xbox 360 system with 120GB hard drive and HDMI port. Also, black accessories such as controllers and battery packs will be available separately as well. And the 120GB hard drive will retail by itself for $179.99.

See the GamerScoreBlog for more coverage.

My thoughts on this? I think this might be the first system in history to raise the price after it is released rather than lowering it, which seems odd. The Premium and Core systems will still be around, so if you don't need the "Elite" features, you really don't need to buy one.
